Motorola A835 is a 3G tri-band candy bar style mobile phone, which is an upgraded version of the A830. The phone has a host of features, as would be expected in such a handset, and includes BluetoothTM technology, an MP3 player, voice memo recorder, a speakerphone for hands-free use, assisted GPS system, and voice control. This phone is both heavier and larger than many others, which is the price paid for packing in so much technology.
The A835 has a high definition TFT LCD display using 220 x 176 pixels and 65,536 colours, and this acts as the screen for menus and for gaming, and also provides good quality viewing of both video and still pictures taken with the phone’s integrated camera.
In addition to the usual polyphonic ringtones, this phone can play life-like MP3 ringtones, and is able to download more over the Internet. Being JavaTM enabled means that you are also able to take advantage of any new games and applications that you wish to download.
With the A835 you can capture and playback video clips, and then send these to friends, or engage in 2-way video conversations or conference calls. The GPRS “always on” connection and high-speed data transmission gives you the capability to access Internet services, and the phone’s built-in email facility enables you to send and receive e-mails using the standard POP3 protocol system.
With downloaded or live-streamed video it is possible to make use of the new multimedia news, sport and entertainment services that are available to users. The MP3 player will also be an essential component for those who like to listen to music on the move. With the need to handle large video and MP3 files, the A835 comes with a large internal fixed memory of 64 MB. There is no additional slot for a memory card, and so this puts a limit on how many MP3 files users are able to download.
The addition of a built-in assisted GPS system will prove popular with those users who wish to take advantage of location-based services, and who need help to find places around the world.
There are a variety of options available for making links to other compatible devices, using the wireless BluetoothTM and infrared connections, or a wired USB data cable. The phone is able to transfer data and files and to synchronise with other user equipment.
